With today’s official release of The Hungry Heart, the first book in my Heart’s Desire series, I am both excited and terrified. Writing a book has often been compared to raising a child, and now my baby is leavingthe nest, being sent out into the world to make it on its own.
Well, not quite.
Just like a mother who has done her best to raise a child to be an independent, contributing member of society, I have written my book, revised, revised and revised it again, submitted it, had it accepted, edited, edited and edited it again, until it is finally ready for publication.
But these days, that’s only the first part of an author’s job. I can no longer influence the content of The Hungry Heart, but I still have to let people know it is out there. So that means giveaways and blog tours, and anything else that will interest readers enough to want to buy it.
My grandmother once told me that no matter how old your children are, even if they have children of their own, you never stop worrying about them. Books are like children. They leave home, but they’re never quite gone. You’re always there to help out however you can whenever they need it. The hope, of course, is that they will eventually do well enough to return the favor and support you into your old age.
So happy release day, The Hungry Heart. The next part of our journey is just beginning.
